Every woman has one, and every man should, too-a sex drawer. More men are now drawing inspiration from women by keeping their nightstands stocked with essential items for intimate moments.
“There are numerous new products that enhance male pleasure,” explains Robin Jennings, the national buying and merchandising manager for The Pleasure Chest, a chain of sex boutiques. “Even staples like condoms and lubricants have evolved beyond what was commonly available a decade ago.”
Here are six must-have items to consider adding to your bedside drawer tonight, some for excitement and others for practicality.
Variety of Condoms
Men often ponder more over their razors than their condoms. While it’s crucial for condoms to prevent pregnancy and STDs, selecting the right one for you might require trying different types. Jennings recommends purchasing a variety pack with different textures, flavors, and thicknesses. It’s wise to have both latex and non-latex options since some women may have latex allergies or sensitivities. Okamoto condoms are recommended for those with latex sensitivities.
Breath Mints
These little mints serve a dual purpose in the bedroom: they freshen breath for kissing and enhance the sensation during oral sex. Anton, 41, describes the experience as “shocking, unexpected, and very cool,” similar to an Icy Hot patch but without the burn, just the tingles.
Quality Lubricant
While women might have lube in their sex drawer, they likely don’t carry it in their purse. “Find something more exciting than regular K-Y Jelly,” suggests Nick Savoy, president of Love Systems. Jennings suggests a product like Uberlube, which is chic and doubles as a massage oil and lubricant. Sampling various lubes is a good idea, as many sex stores sell single-use packets for under $2. If extra lubrication is needed, don’t hesitate to use it as naturally as you would grab a condom.
Oral Sex Spray
Dry mouth during oral sex can be uncomfortable. Doc Johnson’s GoodHead line offers “Wet Head,” a blowjob spray for dry mouth, available in flavors like sugar-free Sweet Strawberry. Emily Morse, a sexologist, advises introducing it as a new, enjoyable experience for her, not just for your benefit.
Cleaning Supplies
After intimacy, your partner shouldn’t have to rush to the bathroom. Stock your drawer with individually-wrapped wet baby wipes and a small dry washcloth. A dry washcloth ensures no one has to sleep in a wet spot.
Sex Kits
Be prepared for adventurous moments by keeping a sex kit in your drawer. These kits cater to various interests, from anal play to bondage. The Curious Couples Kit, for example, includes a “Position of the Day” book, a vibrating cock ring, edible body powder, lube, and IOU sex coupons. Jennings notes these kits are great for introducing new experiences with your partner without significant investment.
